- The number of apps downloaded for the iPod Touch surpassed those downloaded for the iPhone for the first time on Christmas, by 172%
- While app downloads for the iPod Touch usually lag behind those for the iPhone, iPod Touch 3G downloads increased by more than 900% on Christmas day in comparison with the average numbers of downloads on all the other Fridays in December. The following day, iPod Touch downloads still exceeded those for the iPhone by 104%.
- App downloads on all generations of the iPod Touch soared by more than 1,000% on Christmas day, meaning that iTunes gift cards could have been part of the gift-giving equation that pushed iPod Touch users to download so many apps.
- Downloads of apps for Google’s Android mobile platform increased by 50% in December, as compared with downloads in the previous month
- On Christmas day, Android apps were downloaded 93% more than they were on previous Fridays in December.
- Motorola’s Droid comprised some 49% of the Android app downloads, the myTouch 3G accounted for 18%, and the HTC Hero and the G1 accounted for 17% and 16% of Android app downloads.
