WiMax Buildouts Around the World

December 21st, 2009From the WiMax Forum:
- Wireless broadband Internet deployments based upon WiMAX have reached 519 in 146 countries, including 95 WiMAX networks deployed by 2G mobile operators.
- Of the 519 WiMAX deployments, 112 were added in 2009.
- Yota reached 250,000 active commercial users on its Russian network and has passed the breakeven point, thanks to more than 2,300 subscribers added per day to its WiMAX network.
- Clearwire has reached more than 555,000 subscribers; its network covers more than 30 million consumers in 34 markets and has an ARPU of nearly $40.
- Malaysia’s Packet One Networks, which celebrated its first anniversary of operations this year, has reached 130,000 subscribers.
- Motorola recently announced it shipped its 10,000th WiMAX Access Point and one millionth WiMAX CPE.
- Alvarion now supplies more than 260 commercial network deployments in more than 100 countries.
ABI: WiMax Growing
December 7th, 2009ABI Research:
- Expect the total number of worldwide subscribers to be at around two million come January.
- Clearwire has declared it has 173,000 subscribers.
- Yota, in Russia, had 100,000 subscribers in August and 200,000 in October.
- PacketOne in Malaysia, has reached 130,000 subscribers.
- UQ Communications once expected to reach 300,000 subscribers by the end of 2009 in South Korea

WiMax Dominates 1st Round Stimulus Applications
December 3rd, 2009- 25 percent of applications received by the U.S. National Telecommunications and Information Administration and Department of Agriculture RUS Fund for last mile broadband stimulus applications are based on WiMax technology.
- There were over 300 requests for WiMax funding, totalling 1.6 billion dollars.
- There were 1,130 applications for last mile deployment subsidies for a total of 14.2 billion dollars.
Pyramid: WiMax Booming in Africa and Middle East
November 17th, 2009- Business broadband subscriptions is expected to more than quadruple by 2014
- WiMax service offerings were virtually unheard of before 2007 in the region; while the global average fixed service penetration of population stood at 22% at year-end 2008, AME’s penetration level stood at 9 percent for the same period, the lowest among all regions. By year-end 2009, Pyramid expects WiMax to contribute about 2% of total fixed broadband subscriptions in AME, a higher share than in any other region globally except for Latin America.
